Makes 24 cookies. NOTE: Calories per cookie - 98, protein - 2 gm, carbohy- drates - 16 gm, fat 3 gm and sodium 64 gm. Carrot Bars Bars: 3 egg whites 1 tsp. soda 1 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 tsp. cinnamon 16 ounce jar junior carrots 1 cup oat bran (baby food) 1/3 flour 1/2 chopped nuts Frosting: 2 cups powered sugar 1 Tbsp. skim milk 1/2 of 8 ounce tub light cream cheese 1 tsp. vanilla Mix all ingredients for bars together with electric mixer. Pour into 9" x 13" pan that has been sprayed with vegetable spray. Bake in 350 F oven for 25-30 minutes. For frosting, cream together all ingredients, adding vanilla last. Spread over cooled bars. Cut 6 x 6 to yield 3 dozen. 36 servings. NOTE: The cholesterol has been eliminated and 819 fat calories were eliminated by altering and reducing the ingredi- ents shown in bold face. Calories per frosted bar - 106, per- cent calories from fat - 42% and sodium per serving - 78 mg. 2-20-89 Tom Hanigan of Des Moines was a Sunday after- noon and overnight visitor of Gerald Hanigans. Joe Stessman came Friday to visit at the parental Jack Stessmans during Christmas break from Creighton University in Omaha. ATTENDED THE NUTCRACKER Jane Hanigan accompanied other members of the Dunlap Community School Music Department to Omaha to at- tend the performance of The Nutcracker at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha Sunday afternoon. Walter Summerfields were visitors of Fay Foutses Saturday afternoon. John Assmanns attended the annual Christmas dinner and gift exchange at Chris Graeves in Earling Sunday. Tracy Tremel returned home Saturday eve from the University of Iowa at Iowa City to spend Christmas vaca- tion and break at the parental Gerald Tremels. Jim Stephens of Dew City was a Friday afternoon caller at Bill Greenwoods. Mary Jo Hanigan of Omaha was a weekend visitor of Gerald Hanigans. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS Robin Tremel of College of St. Mary's at Omaha came Friday to spend Christmas break at the parental Gerald Tremels. A Shelby News 12-20-g9 Cub Scout Pack # 93 held a pack meeting at the Methodist Church. The Harbaus family was welcomed into the pack. Two skits were given. The boys demonstrated the Vikings theme and the Parade Of Presidents. The Shelby Kiwanis Club met in the bank meeting room. Breakfast was prepared and served by Mary's Kitchen. Bill Wager called the meeting to order. There was a good turn out for the paper drive, Saturday. Arlene Starner and Gretchen attended the monthly meeting of the D.A.R. at Woodbine. Gerald Hanigans were Wednesday callers in Omaha. Later, they visited at Mary Jo Hanigans in that city. Walter Summerfields at- tended the Dunlap Livestock Auction Christmas party at a restaurant in Dunlap Sunday eve. Walter was honored by a program celebrating his re- tirement from the Auction after 34 years of employment with the company. BROWNIES BAKED COOKIES The Brownies of Shelby made cookies and filled plates and delivered to each apartment in the three homes in Shelby. Those helping were Robyn, Jessica H., Cheryl M., Danielle, Jackie Juhl, Erin B., Cathy and Mohiana. Marland Mattox visited his mother, Mac Mattox, Friday night. The Friendship Club of Shelby Senior Citizens en- joyed their Christmas meeting at the Community Building, Dec. 15. The meeting was held and games were played. Rex Ploens of Hilton Head Island, S.C., were in Shelby to visit his mother, Mrs Emma Ploen and to renew ac- quaintances with old friends here.
