Harold P. Lyons, 44
HARt.AN - Harold P. Lyons, the son of William 0. and Rose Marie Kenkel
Lyon, was born July 1, 1945, in Harlan. He attended school and grew to
adulthood in Harlan. He entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 7, 1966, where he
served aboard the USS Rushmore. After receiving his honorable discharge
on Oct. 10, 1971, he returned to Harlan where he was employed by the
United Telephone Co. In 1973, he joined several other musicians to form a
rock and roll band. They tried several names, but finally settled on the Great
Impostors, and specialized in music of the fifty's and sixties. For the past
16 years this popular band played throughout the Midwest with Harry as-
surning the position of bass guitarist. He continued to play with the band
until just two weeks before his death.
He married Barbara Newton on Dec. 20, 1965 in Portsmouth, OH., and
one daughter, Michelle was born in 1%6. He was a member of the Harlan
V.F.W., Post # 941. He died on Nov. 22, 1989 at the Bishop Clarkson
Memorial Hospital in Omaha, NE., at age 44 years, 4 months and 21 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife, Barbara
of Harlan, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Mrs Tom) Hill of Omaha,
NE.; two brothers, William J. Lyon of Ames and Charles Lyon of Harlan;
nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Nov. 25, 1989 at Pauley Funeral Home,
Harlan, with Pastor Donald Schoepf of First Christian Church in Harlan, offi-
ciating. Burial was in Harlan cemetery with Bob Fields, Ken Malone, Jent
Worley, Dick Munson, Keith Kaufman and D.A. (Dinger) Thraen serving as
casketbearers.
John Eugene Butler, 89
JEFFERSON - John Eugene Butler, son of Benjamin Eugene and Edna
Enola Lizer Butler was born July 13, 1900 in Scranton, and died Nov. 19,
1989 at his home in Jefferson, at age 89 years, 4 months and 6 days.
He attended the Scranton Schools. He then farmed for awhile. On June
25, 1923, he married Sarah Jane Quirk at St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Jefferson. They were the parents of Cyril, Mary Louise and Margaret Ann.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. His favorite past-
time was fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Louise; sister,
Laura; brothers, Harry and Seth. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; one son,
Cyril of Hadan; one daughter, Margaret Ann (Bobl Reinsch of Fremont, NE.;
eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and
other relatives.
Funeral Mass was held Nov. 22, 1989 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church,
Jefferson, with Rev. Roger J. Linnan as celebrant.
