Your friends and relatives enjoy reading these little items and your hosts and guests appreciate your courtesy in reporting them. Mr and Mrs Melvin Rasmussen visited Sgt. Ralph Paul at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Aurora, Colo. recently. Sgt. Paul's father-in-law, Glen Havick, returned with the Rasmussens, having accompanied Mrs Paul to Colorado earlier to visit her husband. William C. Tinsley returned to his studies at U of I. in Iowa City, April 10. Mr and Mrs Wm. Tinsley took Barbara back to School at U of I on Sunday where William joined them for the day. Mrs Golden Thraen and Mrs Truman Reamer went to Walnut Tuesday, where they visited Mrs Anna Reimer. Mrs Golden Thraen returned to her home Friday after spending several days with her sister and husband, Mr and Mrs Henry Ohms in Omaha following cataract surgery at an Omaha hospital. Mr and Mrs Larry Strange of Iowa City and Verlee Thraen of Malvern spent the weekend with their mother. Mrs Viola Schneider visited her mother, Mrs Gress, at the Salem I-tome in Elk Horn Tuesday. Mr and Mrs A. W. Price attended church services in Omaha Sunday at Temple Baptist church where Rev. Herbert Anderson, former pastor in Harlan, is resident pastor. They visited at the home of Mr Price's cousin, the Layton Jefferies family. They later visited Mrs Jef- feries, who is hospitalized. Mrs Hazel Vail of Garden Grove, Ia. is visiting her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Gall Massey. Mrs Helen Lane of Marshalltown is a guest of Mrs Harvey Jacobsen. The ladies are cousins. Carl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jim Goeser celebrated her fourth birthday Saturday, April 12. Her mother hosted a party for her Saturday morning. Guests were Susie Schnack, Teresa Clausen, Kent and Kevin Ahrenholtz, Shelli and Mike Kloewer. Afternoon and supper guests of Mr and Mrs Goeser included Messrs and Mines Francis Mitzel and Hugo Grau, all of Manilla, Ralph Lampman of Manning and Ancel Crouch of Irwin. Evening visitors were Mr and Mrs Don Holquist and family of Omaha. Social Mr and Mrs P. M. Knudsen visited Mr and Mrs Mel Ahart in Council Bluffs Sunday, April 13. PINOCHLE CLUB WITH MRS ELSIE ANDERSEN Mrs Elsie Andersen entertained her evening pinochle club Wednesday at the Saylor Coffee Shop "with a dessert course served. Mrs Leo Hanson and Mrs Blanche Tank were guests. Mrs Hanson held high score and Mrs Iva Olsen, second high. The next meeting wiU be with Mrs Mae Green. BABY BOY -- Mr and Mrs Gary Allen announce the birth of a 7 lb 4 oz son, born April 12. He has been named Nathan Thorngren and joins a sister, Kristal and two brothers, Shane and Todd. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs John Allen of Manilla, Dale Thorugren of Ghana, Africa and Mrs Lois Thorngren of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Great-grandparents are Rev and Mrs J. E. Englund of West Des Moines, John Allen St. of Kolby and Jenn Kolby of Hancock. ZENOBIA REBEKAH LODGE TO HOST CONVENTION Zenobia Rebekah Lodge will entertain Districts 83 and 78 at the April 22 Convention. Opening session will be at 1 p.m. All Rebekahs are invited to attend. AFTERNOON BRIDGE WITH MRS CLAY SANDERS Mrs Clay "Sanders was hostess to her bridge club at a dessert luncheon Wednesday. She used a single rose in a bud vase on the tables. High score winner was Mrs Galen Ahrenholtz, second, Mrs Wm. Rodenborn, low, Mrs Randall Armentrout and traveling, Mrs Larry Wunder. Mrs Wunder will host the club May 7. MRS MELVIN RASMUSSEN APRIL 9 HOSTESS Mrs Melvin Rasmussen entertained her afternoon pinochle club, April 9. Mrs Leo Hanson won high, Mrs Robert Nelson second and Mrs Floyd Chambers low. Mrs Harold Martens and Mrs Clifford Wigness tied for traveling. Mrs Wigness will host the club April 23. MRS DONALD BRAGG HOSTS AFTERNOON BRIDGE Mrs Donald Bragg was hostess to her af- ternoon bridge club Wednesday with Mrs George Hurley as a guest. Floral arrangements of red carnations centered the tables for a dessert luncheon. Prize winners were Mrs Lee Sunderland high, Mrs Ray Fogarty second and Mrs Gaillord Nelson low. The club will meet with Mrs Al Krogstad April 30. EVENING BRIDGE CLUB WITH MRS JERRY DAVIS Mrs Jerry Davis was hostess to'her two-table bridge club Wednesday evening with Mrs Wm. Olsen as guest. Winners were Mrs Bernard Brenton, high, Mrs Joe Donahue second and Mrs David Ahrenholtz low. Lunch was served before play. Mrs Larry Gustason will host the club May 7. FAREWELL COFFEE FOR REV AND MRS GARY NELSON Members of the First Baptist church held a coffee honoring Rev. and Mrs Gary Nelson, Jeff, Scott and Kirsten, Sunday evening, April 13 in the church parlors following the Cantata. The Nelsons moved to Danville, Ill. Tuesday. Mrs L. G. Kineen of Tracy, Calif. is staying at the Savior Hotel while visiting Harlan friends. She was called to this area by the death of her brother, Adrian Lally of Dunlap. The Kineens moved from Harlan 12 years ago. Mr and Mrs Jack Lewis were in Des Moines last week attending a bankers meeting. , Out of town relatives and friends coming for the funeral services of Elmer Henriksen were Messrs and Mines Jens Jorgensen, Harris Jorgensen, and James Jorgensen, all of Cedar Falls, Mrs James Lowry of Story City, Peggy Henriksen of Ames, Mr and Mrs John Booth of Malmo, Neb., Mr and Mrs K. W. Andersen, Mrs Fred Andersen, Mrs Joseph Rositto, Donna Henriksen, all of Omaha, Mr and Mrs Peter Olsen and Mrs Agnes Woolhiser of Washington, Neb., Mr and Mrs Gilbert Henriksen and Mr and Mrs Clifford Olsen of Creston, Mr and Mrs Lyle Henriksen and Mark of Corning and Mr and Mrs Roger PeterscrLof Blair, Neb. Maj. Ric.hard K. Andersen, sop-in-law, stationed in Vietnam, was unable to attend the services. Jeff, son of Mr and Mrs Gary Scott celebrated his 3rd birthday, Monday, April 14. Afternoon visitors were Mines Henry Cham- berlain,. Don Funke and Brent, Don Stowe and Mia, Jerry Wilwerding and Mike. His grand- parents, Mr and Mrs Fred Scott, entertained at Sunday dinner in his honor. Attending were the Gary Scott family, Mr and Mrs Clarence Swiatek and Danny, Dale Scott and Connie Holcombe. Dr and Mrs Gary Jorgensen attended the Iowa Chiropractic Society Convention held at the Hotel Savery in Des Moines, Saturday. Frank Miller, cartoonist for Register and Tribune, was guest speaker for the banquet Saturday evening. Republican women to tour Iowa Lislature The Shelby County Republican Women's Club will visit the Iowa Legislature Wednesday, April 23. The tour includes attending the general session in the morning, followed by a luncheon meeting with the area representative. The afternoon will be spent in observing special committee meetings. The Republican club will have as guests the members of the Young Republican Club and the members of the Harlan High School government class. Any person wishing to participate in the tour will be welcome. Please contact Mrs H. S.
