For U.S. Farmers ,= o,..v . -_ =. ,M.,-.,,.,*. ,o,,, Remember the last time your insurance company sent you back a cash refund because they experienced fewer lesses than they had anticipated during the previous year? Mest people can't. And yet, that's exactly what one of America's oldest crop hail insurance companies is about to do. Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. oflowa (Des Moines), has announced a $3.7-miltion cash dividend to be distributed to nearly all of its 1988 crop hail insurance policyholders, according to Perry Rutledge, president of the 95-year- old company. According to Rutledge, the $3.7-million dividend will be mailed to all qualified policyholders between the 15th and the 28th of February. Reason for the dividend? "Not a lot orhail lately," said Rutledge. "It's one of the few silver linings that resulted from last year's unusual weather," he added. Nearly 60,000 policyholders in 13 midwestern and Ohio Valley states are expected to receive FMH payments in amounts ranging up to $2,500. The dividends will be mailed directly to the policyholders to expedite the disburse- ment process. Rutledgs pointed out that, generally, dividends to policyholders are rare. "We've been very fortunate in recent years," said Rutledge. "In fact, in many cases our hail insurance premium rates are actually lower than they were five years ago."
